The Judging committee for the Texas Lawyers Auxiliary, Law - Related Education Teacher of the year, is pleased to announce their selection for their 2024 award. Ms. Christien Bings, a Social Studies teacher at Zachry Magnet School, Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, is this year’s winner. Ms. Bings will receive the award, which includes a $2000 prize, at the TLA fall meeting and luncheon in Austin, Texas on Oct. 14.
Candidates for the prestigious award applied from across the state. Applicants were scored by the judges based on creative curriculum, programs, law related education, an essay, students’ advancement in social studies programs such as debate, Model U.N. or Mock trials, impact on the school community and enriching their students. Ms. Bings was selected by the judges because of her passionate essay, unique curriculum which fosters problem solving and critical thinking, and her sponsorship of the Junior Model UN program in which her students advanced to regional levels. “Ms. Bings is a passionate teacher who brings the debate and law to life, every day in her classroom and through her work as the sponsor for the seventh grade Model United Nations Teams,” said her Magnet school Coordinator, Jennifer Dever.
